Joy and Happiness are not synonyms

This past week at church the pastor talked about joy and of course what popped in my head initially was happiness. My head was wrong. Joy and happiness are not the same thing. Can anyone honestly say they are happy that a loved one died, or they lost a job? Probably not. What we, as Christians, can say though is that we have joy. I can not put it any better than Paul who said:

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. – Romans 5:3-5

Try to look at everything happening today as something that you can be joyful about. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it.
